Where the ancient peoples saw stars as the light of
heaven shining down through holes in the vaulted ceiling of the sky, the
modern view is a skyworks of glowing spheres of iron and dust and rust
spinning through an empty space.
Perhaps, someday, we shall all feel ourselves to be inside our
ancient mother’s oceanic womb where we are parts of stars and moons and
forests and they are us; all the shining light of heaven.
